-
From Great to Greatest
-

-
His prolific scoring and fluid moves have led him to be called
- the Michael Jordan of hockey, a sport better known for its goons
- and gore than its grace. And when WAYNE GRETZKY--or the Great
- Gretzky, as he's known--shot goal No. 802 to become the game's
- all-time leading goal scorer, he certified himself as the greatest
- player in hockey's history. "I skated with a lot of good players,"
- said Gretzky, who has been chasing the mark for 15 seasons.
- But his timing could have been better. Although a sellout crowd
- packed the Kings' arena, one fan's banner revealed just what
- the pecking order is in Los Angeles' tough sports world. welcome
- back, magic, it read in huge capital letters, above a second,
- tiny message: go gretzky.

-
Love on the Run
-

-
DREW BARRYMORE's life sometimes seems stuck in fast-forward.
- A movie starlet at 7, in drug rehab at 13, author of her biography
- at 14, at 19 she's become a successful, sobered-up screen bombshell.
- But even her closest pals were surprised when she secretly married
- Welsh-born Jeremy Thomas, a 31-year-old L. A. bar owner she's
- been dating for just two months. And she just kept going--postponing a honeymoon and racing off to Arizona to shoot a
- film right after the wedding, while Thomas remained in L.A.,
- keeping the home fires burning.

-
SEEN & HEARD
-

-
It was a typical item from the Los Angeles police blotter: man
- and woman involved in domestic dustup. But in this case, the
- one led away in cuffs was wee movie star Dudley Moore. He was
- released on $50,000 bail. Two days later, girlfriend Nicole
- Rothschild admitted that Moore had not hit her after all and
- called the whole thing a "misunderstanding."
-

-
Bill Clinton finally has a new sister-in-law. After months of
- delay and presidential prodding, Roger Clinton and Molly Martin
- were married last Saturday in Dallas. Bill served as best man.
- The couple will live in Los Angeles, where Roger is trying to
- pursue a career as a rock musician. A little Clinton is expected
- in May.
-

-
He's the leader of a vast army of the politically incorrect,
- a purveyor of ideas so vulgar that he makes Beavis and Butt-head
- sound like William F. Buckley, and now he wants to enter electoral
- politics. Last week best-selling author and radio motormouth
- Howard Stern announced plans to run for Governor of New York
- on the Libertarian ticket and received several hundred calls
- of support. Stern' s platform: institute the death penalty for
- gun crimes, allow road crews to work only at night, and add
- extra toll takers to reduce traffic jams.
-

-
La Toya Judd?
-

-
She's had a disappointing career making dance records, so LA
- TOYA JACKSON journeyed to Nashville last week to make--yes--her first country album. The Jackson sibling has gained attention
- recently for her nasty remarks about brother Michael, but her
- manager insists the record will make her "country's next heartthrob."
- He says the music will sound a lot like Garth Brooks'. When
- Brooks poses, as Jackson has, for a nude centerfold with a snake,
- that comparison will seem a lot more reasonable.
